I am no movie expert, neither am I any good at writing reviews, but since there is a new Tom Ford film that has just come out, I cannot let it pass unnoticed. If you still have not seen Nocturnal Animals, book your ticket now cause this is a film worth the cinema experience! There are only a few, rather underestimated films, that I have accurately assumed to be great beforehand. Nocturnal Animals is one of them. To me, it was probably the most awaited film since Drake Doremus' Equals. Having seen Tom Ford's previous film, A Single Man, which is one of my absolute favourites, I was hoping for Ford to step away from fashion and immediately move onto making another wonderful art piece. I am not at all disappointed with the follow-up and the beautiful, sensual vision presented in it.
"Do you ever feel like your life has turned into something you never intended?"
The story of two worlds: the disappointing reality of Susan and the fictional world created by Edward, as a brutal revenge. Even though Nocturnal Animals is visually as pleasing as A Single Man, it is very different plot-wise. From a slow, touching drama, the director has now switched to the genre of thriller. I can only try to be as objective as an admirer can possibly be, I can honestly say, watching this film was possibly the most intense cinema experience to me. What adds up to it, is first of all the powerful performance by both Amy Adams and Jake Gyllenhaal. Secondly, one of the aspects I enjoyed most, is how the image and sound are combined together in the unique montage, in which the transitions between reality and fiction create parallels between characters. Finally and most importantly, Abel Korzeniowski, one of my favourite composers, did not let the audience down with his emotional soundtrack. I could go on for a long time, but it is probably best if you go see the film and judge from your own experience. I really hope you enjoy it!
