It has been a busy weekend for our Red Band team. We have been doing some test shoots, as well as working on our crowd-funding campaign and a teaser trailer for the film. Let me quickly remind you the plot outline of Red Band, as it has been a while since I posted anything about the film and there has been a lot of changes to the story throughout.
Red Band is a short sci-fi film. It follows a story of an artificially intelligent android, called AS-900, who struggles to find a job. He lives in the world where androids are demonized by society and needs to face intolerance and discrimination. He ultimately ends up committing a crime in order to survive. The film is a symbolic examination of societies’ attitudes towards immigrants and refugees in the current climate. We have decided on a social realism style to the film in order to allow the audience to relate to the character, to feel sympathy for AS-900, even though he is not a human being, but an android.
Making the crowd-funding video was quite a funny experience to all of us. It was not too easy for us, filmmakers to suddenly be put on the other side of the camera. I think we have all become more aware of our self consciousness the moment we heard the word action and our minds went blank. The video might not be the greatest campaign and we might not make an impression of the most confident bunch of people but I think what counts most is the fact that we do not pretend to be ones and the effort we put in making it.
